Hands down with no hesitation, I swear by the following three products which I’ll be introducing to you all in this post.
I’ve made countless repurchases of these affordable yet effective products and have recommended and raved about them to friends and family!
I’ve always been a person who cared about skincare more than makeup as I personally believe that your natural beauty is above all and we should try our best in preserving and enhancing our real skin.
Oh, and you get this natural radiating glow from taking proper care of your skin, without the need of a highlighter.
So a few days ago, Priceline (one of Australia’s drugstores) had a 40% off skincare sale and I decided to sneak around my local Priceline to restock on my skincare essentials – something I definitely couldn’t miss out on!
❤️ Burt’s Bees Moisturising Lip Balm 4.3g in Honey (AUD $6.95)
This all started around 3 years ago when I used an old lipstick (one of my favourite revlon ones which I didn’t throw away – all makeup have a shelf life guys!) and it chapped my lips to a whole new level.
There were multiple layers of peeling on my upper and lower lips and what’s worse, my lips started to discolour to a brown shade. I was so devastated.
There were no signs of the natural pink in my lips anywhere and to be honest, it looked traumatising. 😭
I tried so many different (high end and familiar drugstore brands) lip balms and also tried aloe vera but with no luck, my lips continued to stay brown and kept peeling.
Until finally, I decided to try the brand Burt’s Bees (I usually neglect their bright yellow stand in store) to see if that would help because at that point, I had nothing to lose right? Also, I’d consider Burt’s Bees as apart of the more higher end area within the drugstore if that makes sense.
If I remember correctly, the first lip balm I bought from the brand was the pomegranate one – this managed to keep my lips moisturised with a pleasant fruity scent but it wasn’t enough.
Seeing that the pomegranate lip balm worked to some extent, I decided to try the other lip balms in the range so I desperately picked up the mango, coconut, pink grapefruit, peppermint and honey.
Now as I’ve tried almost their whole lip balm range, I can definitely confirm that the honey one works the best and it’s the honey one that managed to get my lips out of the terrible state they were in!
The others do smell amazing but aren’t really as moisturising (I guess if your lips aren’t too dry then they’d work for you) as the honey one, which seriously smells like fresh honey from a jar.
Fast forwarding 3 years to today, I’ve made countless repurchases of the Burt’s Bees honey lip balm and have had no issues with dry lips ever again (even through winter!).
Burts Bees lip balms also gets extra brownie points for being ALL NATURAL and honestly, I could rave about this lip balm all day.
❤️ Simple Kind to Skin Soothing Facial Toner 200ml (AUD $9.99)
I’ve only used a handful of brands for toner but chose to stick with this one for its affordability, gentle factor (no alcohol in this!) and abundance of multivitamins.
For removing makeup, I follow the Korean method of “double cleansing” (basically using an oil based cleanser and then a foam based cleanser) and then immediately using a cotton pad, gently swipe my face upwards with this toner.
I found this toner to be like the icing on top of the cake, it manages to pick up any remaining makeup or dirt left on my face after cleansing and also makes my skin feel extra clean without the squeak, smooth, refreshed, soft and plump. I also feel like it helps with keeping any potential breakouts at bay. Love it!
There’s is definitely no where I can really complain about this product besides the fact that the largest bottle I can purchase is only 200ml – not enough!
If you have sensitive skin and have yet to use a toner or your current one isn’t working well for you, definitely give this one a try! You won’t be disappointed. 😊
❤️ Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Stress Control Power-Cream Wash 177ml (AUD $14.99)
If you’ve been a past reader, I’ve mentioned once that I rarely get any breakouts or pimples in general (also never had acne issues during puberty), thanks to genetics! But there was this one time back in 2014, I had a random and stubborn breakout on my forehead.
I still have one picture of my little breakout to remind myself to stop stressing so much – it looked less irritated here but in person, it was red, itchy and came in clusters.
I’m 100% sure it was due to the stress from the job I was working in at the time and quite frankly, I didn’t know what to do about this acne problem.
I didn’t think it was troublesome enough to go to a dermatologist or spend lots of money on Proactiv products, so I decided to try different acne cleansers and creams from the drugstore.
Through a lot of fails and misses, I finally got a hit with this particular cleanser by Neutrogena and I have never looked back since.
Initially, I thought the name and product description itself seemed too good to be true but damn, this actually worked for me and I saw obvious results. I believed it cleared the acne on my forehead in almost 2 months (for minor cases like mine anyway).
This product makes my face feel so clean and smooth afterwards and it doesn’t feel harsh or drying at all on the skin (my skin type is also dry), despite it having salicylic acid in it.
Ever since my forehead acne cleared up, I continued to use this cleaner as a daily night cleanser and have had no issues – it cleans my makeup off pretty well too!
Despite the cleanser being really effective, I also bought the matching scrub to try out BUT I wouldn’t recommend it.
The scrub felt definitely drying, my skin felt stripped of moisture and it didn’t do anything for my acne at the time. In fact, I still have the almost full bottle lying around in the bathroom and it has been over 2 years now.
Anyway, I hope this helps you on your journey to a better skincare regime or has given you some insight on how effective yet affordable these products really are.
Always take care of yourself including your skin, the future you will thank you for it!
