FOOD REVIEW: Leaf Cafe & Co at Ryde

To some, food basically means happiness or even life…but I can agree that food does make the world go round. πŸ‘…πŸ½

Yesterday my boyfriend and I ventured to Top Ryde City Shopping Centre to have brunch and after some last minute research, the menu for the newly opened Leaf Cafe & Co seemed the most appealing.

My boyfriend and I are not cafe type of people and would most likely to be seen eating at actual restaurants or junk in a food court.

However, recently we decided to open our minds a little and try out more cafes! I can tell you now that we’re not disappointed.

I just love how some cafes can be so aesthetically pleasing to the eyes and while you sit there, sipping away on your coffee, it almost feels like you’re in a dream.

Anyway! Leaf Cafe & Co has a combined all day breakfast and lunch menu as well as a drinks menu (with some fancy looking pressed juices and coffees 😏), which can be found on their website here.

After looking through the entire menu, I ended up picking the safer option, Chicken Schnitzel $16.00 with mushroom sauce and steakhouse chips (I know, I’m at a cafe not a pub but still!) whereas my boyfriend chose the Cheese Croquet Benedict $18.00 with smoked salmon. I also ordered a Belgian Mocha $4.70 which tasted unbelievably smooth, chocolate-y and not too overly sweet (apparently all their Belgian chocolate is imported directly from Belgium).

The portion size of their dishes were perfect as we both finished our meals satisfied and didn’t get ourselves too bloated! Maybe my dish had too many chips though…but I’m not complaining!

The pricing is definitely very reasonable for the portion size we were served with and this isn’t even the best part yet.

The one thing my boyfriend and I were most impressed with was their quick service, extra friendly staff and attention to detail.

Even when the cafe was quite busy, we seriously received our coffees within the next 5 minutes after ordering and both our dishes within the next 10 minutes (maybe a few minutes less). And with their presentation still on point, that’s insane!

My past few experiences with other cafes have been a tad disappointing, mainly due to the lack of customer service and waiting times so Leaf Cafe & Co definitely scores extra points for me.

Now for my thoughts on the actual food… πŸ‘ŒπŸ½πŸ‘ŒπŸ½πŸ‘ŒπŸ½ I’ve discussed with my boyfriend and we’ve both agreed that we will for sure come back, very soon!

For my Chicken Schnitzel:

1. Mushroom sauce had fresh sliced button mushrooms and was seasoned properly, not too bland and not too salty

2. Steakhouse chips were fresh, crispy and hot

3. Bread crumbs didn’t flake off the chicken and the chicken was also crispy and seasoned well

Not much to say or hide with such a basic dish like a chicken schnitzel and chips but they’ve done it well.

For my boyfriend’s Cheese Croquet Benedict:

1. Cheese croquets were crispy on the outside and extra soft and cheesy on the inside (I tried some and they were crazy cheesy so if you like cheese, you’ll love this)

2. Salmon wasn’t too overwhelmingly smoked and tasted fresh with good portion sizes

3. Crispy brioche with a good crunch

4. Perfect poached eggs with the oozing golden lava of yolk once broken

5. A complimenting and flavourful (horseradish and sriracha) remoulade to top the dish up!

While we were at the cafe, my boyfriend stated that he couldn’t find anything to fault the dish he had. I also remember seeing my boyfriend eating his dish with his eyes closed half the time as well! πŸ˜‚

Wrapping things up, I would rate this cafe a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 rating as a whole and since I’m a picky eater (those who know me would find “picky” as an under statement – to my defense, I just know which foods are actually good 😏) and tend to nitpick a lot so I think this settles it.

So if you’re located in NSW and stuck on a new cafe to try out, I 110% recommend you to give Leaf Cafe & Co a shot. I can almost guarantee you won’t be disappointed. πŸ™‚

I’ve also checked their site and they seem to have several stores throughout NSW with more opening in 2017, incase Top Ryde is too far for you.

Hope this review helped you in considering if this cafe is worth a visit and if you’re not in NSW…then I hope this post didn’t make you too hungry. πŸ˜‰
